OAKLAND — The A’s lost an extra-inning game, 5-4, to the Detroit Tigers on Friday. The A’s blew a 4-0 lead.
Josh Phegley punched a high fastball the other way for a two-run double in the second inning. The A’s pumped out four runs total that inning on a slew of walks and some iffy Tigers defense.
Homer Bailey cruised through six shutout innings, working a splitter and fastball that’s been a consistent combination for the right-hander. Before the seventh inning, he held the Tigers to two singles.
But as he reached 90-plus pitches the third time through the order, Bailey started to fade.
