Manaea was rocked for seven runs and 11 hits, including a home run, in just 3 2/3 innings at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. The lefty had completed at least six innings in both of his previous two starts.
Alvarez makes his first appearance in the big leagues since May 22, 2015, when he pitched with the Marlins. He has come back from two right shoulder surgeries. The Phillies called him up to give them a six-man rotation the rest of the season.
