At noon PST, the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox will face off in Game 3 of their Wild Card series for a chance to advance to the ALDS against the Houston Astros.
With their season on the line, the A's have turned to 35-year-old pitcher Mike Fiers, who was so-so in the regular season (6-3, 4.58 ERA), but has also been lights-out in his career against the White Sox.
A’s announce that Mike Fiers will start today. He’s 4-0 with a 1.58 ERA lifetime vs. the White Sox - and best right-handed.

As Slusser notes, Fiers is finally getting a chance to start in a decisive playoff game after having been passed over three other times.
