MIAMI — How much does Yonder Alonso appreciate being an All-Star?
“I want to tattoo these two days into my body so I’ll never forget them,” he said.
Tattoo or no tattoo, Alonso will have no trouble remembering this dream come true in his adopted hometown, the chance to represent not only the A’s but also Miami, his family and the Cuban community that supported him from childhood.
Alonso is the American League’s backup first baseman for Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Marlins Park. Toronto’s Justin Smoak is the starter.
“I told my wife I didn’t want to sleep in today,” said Alonso, who arrived early in the morning from Seattle, where the A’s finished the first half.
