A’s waste Blackburn’s strong outing with defensive lapses against Braves

OAKLAND — If Paul Blackburn felt any jitters during his major league debut, he sure did a good job of hiding it.

The Brentwood native and former Heritage High standout was locked in, allowing just three hits and an unearned run over six innings of work on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves to keep the A’s in the ballgame of an eventual 4-3 loss that was spoiled by two costly errors from Franklin Barreto.

Barreto’s first error came in the second after he airmailed a throw to first on a routine ground ball, allowing Tyler Flowers to reach second.
