A’s veterans having to adjust to reduced playing time

MIAMI – With the designated hitter going out the window in interleague games played in the National League, it was easy to explain Trevor Plouffe not being in the Oakland starting lineup the last two days in Miami.

The A’s needed to keep Ryon Healy’s bat in the lineup. He has a .333 average with four doubles and five homers in his last 10 games entering Wednesday. He plays third base, as does Plouffe, so Plouffe, hitting .214 with seven homers, wound up taking a seat.

It’s not the same for Rajai Davis, who also did not start either of the two games.
