A’s top prospect Franklin Barreto putting on a show

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -The youngest player in the A’s camp is turning the most heads.

Franklin Barreto, 21, went 2 for 4 and cracked his first homer of the spring in Oakland’s 6-5 loss to the Indians Thursday, and he is batting .480 with an OPS of 1.180, tops among those in camp the whole way. Barreto, acquired in the Josh Donaldson deal with Toronto, is also handling shortstop and second base well - and chances are, he’ll be up with Oakland before the end of the season.

“He’s just a baseball player, both sides, defensively, offensively, runs the bases,” manager Bob Melvin said.
