A’s to face old friend Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon will start Sunday against the A’s, and that’ll generate a few smiles in the home dugout.

“I always knew when he didn’t want to come out of the game,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “I’d go down to the end of the dugout, and he’d throw a towel over his head as if I couldn’t see him.

“I knew that meant, ‘I’m still ready to pitch a couple of more innings.’ ”

Colon, 44, pitched for the 2012 and 2013 A’s, winning 28 games and posting a 2.99 ERA. The Twins, who signed the right-hander this month after the Braves released him, are his 10th team.
