HOUSTON – Stephen Vogt spent the final couple of innings of Saturday night’s 2-1 win over the Astros on the A’s bench.
It’s not a place Vogt much cares to be. The veteran catcher says “I like being a nine-inning guy” and is used to finishing what he starts. And he started Saturday in Minute Maid Park.
Manager Bob Melvin appreciates Vogt in the extreme, and he doesn’t like to lift him. But backup Josh Phegley has a stronger throwing arm and the Astros have some of the better base runners in the league.
Vogt didn’t pout.
