MESA, Ariz. — Sonny Gray needed a day to digest the news when he found out his season would get off to a delayed start.
On Friday, the A’s ace pitcher vowed he’ll recover from his latest injury and before long will return to his former All-Star form.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that when this thing gets knocked out that I’m going to be back to being the guy I’ve always been,” Gray said Friday from the dugout of Hohokam Stadium. “It’s just another little test that I’ve got to deal with.”
Gray, whom the A’s announced Thursday will be shut down for at least three weeks with a lat strain, said he began to feel some tightness during the second inning of his start on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks but didn’t think much of it.
