A’s sad to see the season come to an end for once, look excitedly toward 2018 and beyond

OAKLAND — For the first time in a few years, the A’s actually were sorry to see the baseball season end when it did Sunday, so much so that they’re hoping the off-season passes quickly so they can pick up where they left off with their 2017 finishing kick.

The A’s had a lot of fun and frivolity in September for the first time since 2013. They went 17-7 over their final 24 games, and were so strong over their final two months that they nearly pulled out a winning post All-Star break record. They fell short at 36-37, but after the final dismal months in 2015 and 2016 — and you could probably throw in that 2014 playoff season, too — one game under .
