A’s Ryon Healy ready to play after taking bad hop off face

NEW YORK - Ryon Healy hit in the batting cage Saturday, then took full batting practice with the team a day after getting clocked in the side of the face by a bad-hop bouncer.

Healy wasn’t in the A’s lineup - with no designated hitter at a National League park, All-Star Yonder Alonso started at first base against right-hander Zach Wheeler - but he said he was available off the bench.

“It’s a little tender, but I feel OK,” he said. “I think I’m great. I’m ready to go.”

“It was a little scary last night, he gets hit right near the temple,” manager Bob Melvin said.
