MESA, Ariz. — Renato Nunez’s quest to crack the A’s Opening Day roster will have to take a pause.
The A’s power-hitting prospect had gotten off to a nice start in the club’s first two spring games by reaching base in his first four plate appearances and impressing manager Bob Melvin with his defense at third base, but Nunez pulled his left hamstring as he was scoring on an RBI single from Sheldon Neuse in the second inning of Saturday’s 8-3 win over the Padres.
“I took him out of the game because of it,” Melvin said.
