OAKLAND — The A’s begin a season ending four-game set against the Rangers on Thursday in Texas, and catcher Bruce Maxwell is expected to continue to take a knee in protest during the pre-game national anthem.
Maxwell is the only MLB player who has taken up the cause, but manager Bog Melvin believes he’ll be kept safe in a visiting ballpark.
“Baseball is pretty good at being a step ahead and knowing potentially what could happen,” Melvin said. “I haven’t thought too much about it. Once you get there and get a feel for it, it might be a little different than here.
