MESA, Ariz. - The A’s had five players signed up for the World Baseball Classic, and John Axford might be the only guy participating.
“Once again, I’m excited to put on a Canadian jersey and have ‘Canada’ across the chest,” said Axford, who plans to leave Sunday for Florida to begin workouts with his countrymen.
Sonny Gray, Khris Davis and Liam Hendrix have pulled out of the WBC for various reasons, and it would be no shock if Santiago Casilla was crossed off the list, too.
Casilla still hasn’t reported to A’s camp because of visa problems, and every extra day he’s late further lessens his chances of pitching in the WBC.
