BALTIMORE – The A’s rebounded from a five-run deficit with some late-inning firepower but couldn’t complete the comeback and lost to the Baltimore Orioles 8-7 on a walk-off homer by Manny Machado in the 12th inning.
Machado lined the solo shot off Simon Castro (1-2) into the left-field seats, just beyond the reach of a leaping Khris Davis.
The A’s trailed 6-1 in the Wednesday matinee but RBI singles by Matt Olson and Bruce Maxwell in the seventh and a two-run homer by Matt Joyce an inning later trimmed the lead to a run.
Chris Davis drilled a solo shot in the bottom half of the eighth to give the Orioles a 7-5 cushion.
