A’s place reliever Sean Doolittle on DL

MINNEAPOLIS - On Tuesday, the A’s got two players back off their packed disabled list. Wednesday, another key member of the team went onto the DL.

Reliever Sean Doolittle was placed on Oakland’s 10-day DL with a left shoulder strain, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. The onetime A’s closer has missed significant time with similar injuries over the past two seasons: more than two months last year and 121 games the year before that. This is Doolittle’s fifth trip to the DL in four seasons.

In addition, the team designated starter/long reliever Cesar Valdez for assignment; Valdez had allowed seven earned runs and four homers over his past four innings of work.
