A’s right-hander Daniel Mengden had successful surgery on his right foot Wednesday in Houston, the team announced.
The 23-year-old pitcher is expected to be in a walking boot for six weeks and has no further timetable for returning, according to the A’s.
Mengden reportedly fractured his medial tibial sesamoid bone while throwing a bullpen session at home on Jan. 31.
He went 2-9 with a 6.50 ERA in 14 starts over two stints with the A’s last season. Mengden was 10th among AL rookies with 71 strikeouts.
At Double-A Midland and Triple-A Nashville last year, he was a combined 10-2 with a 1.
