A's notes: Surgery under consideration for C Phegley

OAKLAND — Catcher Josh Phegley was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning with a recurrence of pain in his right knee, and A’s manager Bob Melvin acknowledged that surgery is under consideration.

Phegley received a cortisone shot early in his first DL stint, which ran from May 10-26. On Saturday morning, to his surprise, Phegley woke up with discomfort in the knee similar to what he felt during that first stretch on the injured list. He’s undergone an MRI this weekend, and though Melvin didn’t share the specifics of what was found, he said the A’s training and medical staff is still mulling how to proceed with Phegley.
