A’s notes: Melvin tweaks lineup hoping to spark dismal offense; Alonso moved to cleanup spot

OAKLAND — Looking to spark a moribund offense, A’s manager Bob Melvin shuffled his lineup a bit for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Matt Joyce is in his familiar leadoff position but Khris Davis will DH and bat third in the order. Yonder Alonso will bat clean-up for just the eighth game this season. Rajai Davis, who led off in Monday’s 7-2 loss to the White Sox, will bat ninth.

Some type of shakeup was needed.

Since the A’s won four straight from June 23-27, they’ve hit just .167 and have struck out a combined 81 times.
