A’s No. 2 pick Logan Shore to make start against Angels

MESA, Ariz. - Oakland decided against using No. 5 starter Raul Alcantara on Tuesday against the Angels, a division rival, so instead, the A’s will get a look at their No. 2 draft pick from last June against a lineup made up of almost entirely big leaguers.

Shore, 22, was the 2016 SEC Player of the Year while at Florida; he went 0-2 with a 2.57 ERA at short-season Class-A Vermont last summer, with 21 strikeouts in 21 innings. He was part of a pitching-heavy draft class for Oakland that included top pick A.J. Puk, also from Florida, and Cal’s Daulton Jefferies.
