Roark returned for the eighth, recording two outs before Chad Pinder's RBI double sent him out of the game. The right-hander picked up the win, though, besting A's starter Sonny Gray, who went seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits, including Trea Turner's two-run triple in a three-run sixth inning. The Nationals tacked on five runs in the ninth against right-hander Frankie Montas, on back-to-back homers from Matt Wieters and Michael A. Taylor and Daniel Murphy's two-run single, and those runs became vital when the A's rallied for six runs in the bottom of the inning, capped by Matt Joyce's grand slam off Shawn Kelly.
