A’s miss many chances, fall 8-1 at Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas - Opportunities weren’t the issue for the A’s on Sunday against the Rangers. They had plenty.

Oakland stranded 11 runners and made three errors in an 8-1 loss to Texas, and while much more scoring came later in the game, the outcome was decided, in essence, on one swing of the bat, a three-run homer by Rangers third baseman Joey Gallo in the second.

Sean Manaea, the A’s starter, had a couple of iffy sequences Sunday interspersed with long stretches of strong work. With two outs in the second, he gave up singles to Ryan Rua and Robinson Chirinos, then gave up a first-pitch homer to Gallo.
