Melvin is one of seven managers in history to win the Manager of the Year award in both leagues, having earned the honor in 2007 with Arizona and 2012 with the A's. He led the A's to three consecutive postseason appearances from 2012-14, including back-to-back American League West titles in 2012 and 2013 to become the first manager to lead the A's to consecutive division titles since Tony La Russa won three straight from 1988-90.
He signed a three-year contract through the 2014 season on Sept. 21, 2011, a two-year extension through 2016 on Jan. 14, 2013, and another two-year extension through 2018 on Sept.
