A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell, who gained national attention for being baseball’s only player to take a knee during the national anthem, said he was refused service by a waiter in an Alabama restaurant because of it.
Maxwell, who joined the protests former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started, told TMZ he was recognized by a waiter when he and a friend, a local city councilman, went out for lunch recently.
“He was like, ‘You’re the guy who took the knee? I voted for Trump and I stand for everything he stands for,’ ” Maxwell said.
And with that, the waiter told Maxwell and the councilman, a high school classmate of Maxwell’s who is also African-American, he would not serve them.
