NEW YORK – East Bay native Marcus Semien has said before that he would welcome the opportunity to make a long-term commitment to the A’s. If the shortstop needed an endorsement from his manager, he received that from Bob Melvin before Saturday night’s game against the Mets.
“This guy is as hard a working guy as I’ve been around. He wants to play every day,” Melvin said. “He plays the game the way we want him to and he makes no excuses, so he is very valuable for a group of younger guys we have coming in behind him.
