MESA, Ariz. — A’s manager Bob Melvin is expected to rejoin the team Sunday after the death of his mother Judy, who passed away Friday afternoon.
Melvin departed Arizona on Friday morning and arrived home in time to spend some final moments with her.
“It was important for him to be there,” said A’s bench coach Mark Kotsay, who will fill in for Melvin for a second straight day. “We all pushed him to get there and thankful that he did get there and was able to be with her.”
Details on services weren’t yet available and it’s conceivable Melvin may take more time off at a later date.
