MESA, Ariz. — A’s manager Bob Melvin left the team on Friday and is traveling home from Arizona to attend to a personal matter, a team spokesman said.
The length of Melvin’s absence is unknown and bench coach Mark Kotsay will manage the team in his place.
The A’s are 7-4 through the first two weeks of Cactus League action and play their first night game on Friday when they travel to Surprise to take on the Kansas City Royals.
Jharel Cotton is scheduled to make the start in the 6:05 p.m. Mountain time start. Mark Canha will get a start in center field in the game.
