OAKLAND — Bob Melvin just won his 1,000th game as a manager, so he’s been around more than a few trade deadlines.
This year his club possesses the most sought-after pitcher on the market in Sonny Gray. Having managed Gray since his call up in 2013, Melvin admitted that there is a nervous feeling as he awaits the destiny of his ace pitcher.
“It’s like getting down to the eighth or ninth inning and hoping to hang on,” Melvin said. “As far as the Sonny situation, he’s been a guy I’ve been really close to over the years and he’s pitched some great games for us.
