OAKLAND – The A’s move toward the future took another step forward Thursday with the club promoting third baseman Matt Chapman from Triple-A Nashville while putting third baseman Trevor Plouffe on the designated for assignment list.
Some members of the A’s inner circle have been pressing for Chapman and shortstop Franklin Barreto to be promoted as the A’s start to mine their top talent at Triple-A, Chapman and Barreto being the leaders of the pack for the Sounds.
Chapman is a skilled defensive player as a major power threat. He missed two weeks in April thanks to a sprained left wrist.
