Yonder Alonso made an unusual journey back to the Coliseum to play his first game as a Mariner and received a warm welcome from A’s fans.
And then watched his new team beat his old team in 10 innings.
Alonso played first base, batted second and went 1-for-5 in the Mariners’ 7-6 victory on Tuesday night, a promising sign for a Seattle team in the American League wild-card race.
The A’s made three errors, used seven relievers and wasted a home run, triple and four RBIs by Khris Davis. Leonys Martin’s decisive homer in the 10th off Josh Smith gave the Mariners their first lead.
