A’s lefty is looking at his past in order to go forward

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Sean Doolittle went back to the basics during his six weeks on the A’s disabled list.

The left-hander, who will be activated for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Rays in Tropicana Field, spent much of his free time watching video of himself pitching in 2012 and 2013, when he’d given up hitting to focus solely on pitching.

He was an immediate smash in that role with the A’s, helping Oakland to three consecutive post-season berths both as a closer and as a setup man. Injuries have eaten up chunks of his last three seasons, including this one.
