Left-hander Francisco Liriano picked up the victory, even though he was pitching on three days' rest. Liriano scattered a pair of hits and two walks while striking out five to earn his first win since July 6. He lasted five innings with Joe Biagini and Ryan Tepera combining to toss three scoreless frames of relief in front of closer Roberto Osuna, who picked up save No. 25 of the season.

A's right-hander Chris Smith was saddled with the first loss of his big league career despite picking up a quality start.
