MESA, Ariz. - Joey Wendle, who came up last September and played well for Oakland, told The Chronicle on Saturday that he has been shut down the past week by a sore right shoulder.

“It’s definitely nothing serious,” the second baseman said. “Just something is acting up right now.”

Wendle said an MRI did not show any structural damage, just inflammation. “Something is ticked off in there,” he said.

There is no timetable for Wendle’s return to the field but he said he was feeling much better Saturday after treatment. “I think I’m getting closer,” he said.
