Franklin Barreto is back with the A’s, and this time, he gets to play.
The team’s top infield prospect will be at second base most of the time while Matt Chapman is out with a right hand injury. The previous two times Barreto was up this year, he got just six at-bats.
“This is his biggest opportunity since he’s been here,” manager Bob Melvin said. “It’s tough for a younger guy who’s used to playing every day — a guy who’s one of your top prospects, who’s expected to be a fixture in the organization — to keep coming up here and not playing much.
