A’s infielder exceedingly anxious to get back on the field

OAKLAND – The hope had been that Matt Chapman would return to the A’s starting lineup at third base Thursday.

It seems unlikely now that will happen, but A’s manager Bob Melvin said Chapman “is feeling better” and may not be far away from getting back on the field.

Chapman came up at the start of this homestand and had a big hand in helping the A’s sweep the Yankees in a four-game series. But a left knee infection has cropped up since then thanks to a collision with a wall in the minor leagues, and he’s had to sit the next three games out, including Wednesday.
