MESA, Ariz. – Dave Kaval’s job is the get the A’s into a new ballpark in Oakland, the sooner the better.

Because that job can’t be completed instantaneously, Kaval and his team are doing what they can to spice up the fans’ experience at the old ballpark for whatever time the A’s have left at the Coliseum.

There’s been one nod to the club’s recent history with the naming of the playing field after Rickey Henderson, who came out of Oakland schools to become baseball’s all-time runs scored and stolen base leader.

Kaval, who was in Mesa Sunday to address the team on the first full day of workouts, said the team has addressed the past dipping back into Philadelphia by completely rebuilding what had been the West Side Club into something of an old-time East Coast bar called the Shibe Park bar.
