OAKLAND – Trevor Plouffe, designed for assignment by the A’s on Thursday, was traded to Tampa Bay for a player to be named later or cash considerations Saturday morning.
“I’ve already texted with him,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “He wasn’t here very long, but I’d say he was very impactful.”
The A’s let Plouffe go to make room for rookie third baseman Matt Chapman to take over as the regular. That job was Plouffe’s after he signed a one-year contract as a free agent, but things never quite clicked for him in his first year playing for any team other than the Twins.
