Pedrique spent the last five seasons managing in the Yankees farm system and is familiar with the three players Oakland acquired in July's Sonny Gray deal: outfielder Dustin Fowler, infielder Jorge Mateo and right-hander James Kaprielian. Most recently, he was at the helm for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, claiming a Triple-A championship in 2016 with a crop of players that included 2017 American League Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge.
Pedrique, 57, brings 13 years of Minor League managerial experience with him. He's embarking on his fifth season on a Major League coaching staff but first since 2011, when he culminated a three-year stint with the Astros, including two as bench coach.
