Three days after making his major-league debut as a designated hitter against the A’s, Angels rookie Shohei Ohtani walked out to the Coliseum mound and faced them as a pitcher Sunday.

Shaky in limited his limited outings this spring, the 23-year-old Japanese two-way player flashed some of the reasons for the hype that surrounds him. He touched 99 mph with his fastball. His split-finger dived and evaded Oakland’s bats.
