DETROIT — Another week and cortisone shot later, Matt Chapman appears to be close to making his return.
After receiving his second cortisone shot in as many weeks Monday, this time at the top of his right hand as opposed to the one he received near the base of his thumb, Chapman has been feeling better as each day passes.
The plan is for Chapman to pick up a bat and begin taking swings either Thursday or Friday, a decision A’s manager Bob Melvin said would be made after Wednesday night’s game against the Tigers.
“We could push it back a day based on just trying to give it three full days for the cortisone shot, but hopefully that is the case,” Melvin said.
