OAKLAND – The anti-aging trend for the A’s took another huge step forward Saturday morning with Oakland calling up No. 1 prospect Franklin Barreto.
The shortstop will take the place of infielder/outfielder Chad Pinder, who has been alternating between right field and shortstop of late. Pinder suffered a hamstring injury in Friday’s 3-0 win over the White Sox.
Barreto, 21, will join a team that has spent much of the last 10 weeks calling up position players from Triple-A Nashville, of whom Pinder is one.
Baseball America has ranked Barreto as the A’s top prospect for the last couple of years.
