TORONTO — In the middle of a blowout against the Blue Jays, the A’s decided to claim a player off waivers from their current opponent.
The A’s claimed 27-year-old right-handed pitcher Carlos Ramirez off waivers from the Blue Jays.
Signed as an outfielder in 2009 out of the Domincan Republic, Ramirez was converted to a pitcher by the Blue Jays just after the 2014 spring. He went 9-4 with 21 saves and a 2.51 ERA in five seasons in Toronto’s minor league system.
Ramirez posted a 3.86 ERA in two relief appearances with the Blue Jays this season before getting designated for assignment May 13.
