SEATTLE - Following a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, starter Chris Bassitt is back in action and all signs are pointing toward him returning to the A’s at some point in the near future.
And when he does, it could be as a reliever, just for the remainder of this season, as manager Bob Melvin now has mentioned twice.
“I think he’s excited about the prospect of coming back here sooner than later, and it might not be in a starting role,” Melvin said. “As far as options to get him here this year, it might be in a relief-type role - and I think he has a chance to be really effective doing that.
