First baseman-outfielder Matt Olson was recalled Sunday for the second time this season and he might have landed in Oakland’s starting lineup had his flight arrived any earlier.
Olson’s flight wasn’t scheduled to land until 12:30 p.m. and then was delayed by another 25 minutes, so he was unlikely to get to the Coliseum until after the start of the 1:05 p.m. game and wasn’t available to start. With Mark Canha a late scratch with stomach flu, though, Olson will at least provide the A’s another right-handed bat off the bench.
Daniel Mengden, who allowed 13 hits, three walks and nine runs in eight innings over two starts, was sent back to Nashville.
