TORONTO - After Santiago Casilla’s latest meltdown, the A’s appear to be edging toward a change at closer, even though the next man in line also blew a save in the finale at Toronto.
Manager Bob Melvin said Thursday morning at Rogers Centre that he would never signal such a move ahead of time, but before Oakland’s 8-4, bullpen-abetted loss in 10 innings at at Toronto, Melvin strongly hinted that it’s possible.
“It’s rare that you go through the entire season without tweaking at some point in time,” Melvin said of the closer spot, adding, “But you either stick with a guy or give a guy a break.
