With Yonder Alonso reportedly garnering interest on the trade market, the A’s might have found a potential replacement for the All-Star first baseman should he be traded before the deadline.
Chris Carter has signed a minor league contract with the A’s, the club announced Friday. Originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2005, the Redwood City native spent five years in the A’s organization and his first three seasons in the big leagues with Oakland, hitting 19 home runs in 106 games before being traded to the Houston Astros.
Carter had a career year with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2016 as he led the National League with 41 home runs.
