Bob Melvin was happy to get longtime coach Chip Hale back by his side this year after Hale was let go by Arizona following two years of managing the Diamondbacks.
Hale’s return to Oakland might be brief, though; there are two managers’ jobs open already, in Detroit and New York, and he’s been mentioned as a leading candidate for the Mets’ job.
The A’s have not yet had any calls requesting interviews with Hale, but they won’t be surprised when it happens.
“I hope it does for his sake,” Melvin said. “It was nice to have him back, he brings a lot of energy, and there's a passion for him to be in this uniform.
