A’s among teams singled out by union for not spending revenue-sharing checks

MESA, Ariz. - The A’s - whose payroll currently stands at a bare-bones $63.5 million - are among four teams singled out by the Players Association for failing to spend revenue-sharing money, union spokesperson Chris Dahl confirmed Tuesday morning.

Dozens of high-profile free agents remained unsigned this spring, and several agents have questioned whether several clubs are making adequate efforts to improve themselves; some have even accused teams of “tanking” by failing to spend resources. So the union has filed a grievance with Major League Baseball, claiming that the A’s, Marlins, Pirates and Rays have not complied with requirements to spend their revenue-sharing checks.
