Given their recent struggles, this was a conversation the A’s could do without: First baseman Yonder Alonso contemplating the state of his sore left knee with reporters before Thursday night’s game against Boston.
Alonso has been Oakland’s best hitter this season. He leads the team in home runs (12) and RBIs (29), and his .271 batting average was the highest among regular starters as the A’s launched their homestand.
The injury forced Alonso out of Wednesday night’s game in Seattle and kept him out of Thursday night’s lineup. He probably won’t play Friday night, either.
